Summer Homework 2

Carly Rae Jepson: 'Call me Maybe'

Throughout the video the artist is trying to get the attention of the guy next door, she goes out of her way to try and make herself look desirable, but he doesn't pay any attention to her. This shows the audience that she is a bit niave and helpless, it draws the audience to her as she isn't afriad of making a fool out of herself, this is an example of selling the artist, as the sudience watching this video (mainly young girls who enjoy the pop genre) will be able to relate to her situation automatically making a connection between the artist and the audience, she is seen as a normal girl and not superior the the audience in any way. When the artist sings the lyrics 'your stare was holding ripped jeans skin was showing' the visuals show the man she is singing about exactly how he is described in the lyrics, giving the viewers a clear picture therefore they are able to understand the song better, this is an example of the lyrics matching the visuals. When the song reaches the chorus the video cuts quickly to a different shot in time with the beat, matching the music to the visuals. When watching the video the genre is really clear, the song is extremley catchy and upbeat and the video tells a story, which are characteristics of the pop genre, attracting an audience that will typically listen to pop music.
