The music video I chose to look at that is similar to our one was 'Jason derulo - breathing' I thought that this video was similar because it has some of the same shots that we want to incorporate into out video such as filming at night and filming with just the stars face in a black room.
In the video the shots are very short and cut on the beat, the shots are lit so most of the time you can see the stars face clearly this is so the audience can see and connect with the star. The shot that I think is most effective is when he is stood in the plain black room and the camera first focuses on his hands which are close to the lens, and then focuses on his face which is further away from the lens, when the star is stood in the black room they have lit it really well so the whole of his face and torso are getting an equal amount of light and one half is his face isn't darker then the other, as well as achieving this the light is also still quite dark which I think looks really effective. I think this would be a good lighting set up for our star when he his in the black room.
Another reason why this music video is similar to ours is that it follows a story line about a boy wanting a girl, but instead of showing a clear structured storyline for the viewers to understand it only had a couple of clips of him with the girl. This is also how we want to portray out story line, we will have most of the time taken up buy the singers singing but also have a story line which is simple and fits exactly with the lyrics so not much of the story will need to be shown to make it clear. This works really week in this music video because you see more of what the star is going through rather than a story without the singing of the male and female together, this makes the audience sympathise more with the star.
