Analysis of similar/influential video and in depth research into costume

The music video that I ahve chosen to analyse is Olly Murs 'Please Don't Let Me Go'
The main story throughout the video is the artist walking around a party feeling a bit out of place, looking for the girl he is singing about and then he sings the song to her.

As soon as the main artist is shown you can see straight away that he is out of place, as he turns up to the party on a mop-ed while everyone else arrives in very smart cars, he also stands out as most people are wearing evening wear and look as if they have made a lot of effort. Where as the main singer is dressed very casual. This really sells the artist as it makes him look very ordinary, which will attract an audience to him as he isn't making himself look superior to anyone. Throughout the video the singer is either singing into the camera or at the girl the song is aimed at, when singing into the camera it makes it a bit more personal to anyone watching. There is a lot of shot reverse shots between the artist and the girl the song is about, this makes it easy to see there is a connection between the two. The video is non linear as one shot is natural lighting (daytime) and another shot artificial lighting is used to light the artists face as it is now dark outside and then there is another shot going back to daytime, the chronology is not apparent. In shots where the artist is singing, the background is blurred so the audience's full attention is on the singer. In the video there is also a dance routine which is typical of the songs genre which is pop.

Costume:
In the video there is two completely different styles shown between the artist and everyone else. The singer is wearing very casual everyday clothing, (Jeans, shirt and a casual jacket) this helps the audience to relate to him and gives the impression that he is just like everyone else, when he arrives at the party it is clear to see that everyone else is dressed very smart, the males in what looks like expensive suits, and the females in formal dresses, big hats, heels, sun glasses etc. This shows an immediate separation between the singer and everyone else attending the party, showing that they are from completely different backgrounds, again showing how normal the artist is.
