There are 3 main types of lighting used in music videos:
-stylised
-naturalistic
-minimalistic
Stylised lighting is usually quite bright and fake looking, it is styled to the star or the genre of music, in pop the stylised lighting is usually (when in just a room concentrating on the star) dimmed background and a lot of light on the stars face. Streak filters are usually used which gives it a dazzling look.
Naturalistic lighting is lighting that is set up but looks natural, for instance it's in the middle of the day but there are dimmed lights inside and a light shining through the window with an orange filter on to represent a sunset.
Minimalistic lighting is when you use as little lighting as possible and just using the avaliable/natural light.
Streak filters - these are filters you put on your lens, this creates streak looking lines coming from the lights. These are a common thing used in music videos.
Hot to make a streak filter:
-use plastic packaging
-secure filter with tape
-yes scalpel to scratch marks vertical or horizontal (or both)
-attatch plastic infront of the filter
When you shine a light such as a torch to the camera it will create the streak effect.
This lighting lesson helped because it shows us different ways of lighting such as how to make the background seem darker and the star stand out we will be using this technique in our music video. It also taught us about streak lighting which we didn't previously know, this is also another effect we want to incorporate into our music video.
