In this clip, according to one of Goodwins we conformed to the conventions of a pop music video and how there is a relationship between lyrics and visuals. This is has been used in this clip in a literal way, as the lyrics say 'youve built your walls so high' the camera angle literally goes high???. This works well in the music video as it gives it movement. Movement being another convention of a music video, you tend to see a lot of tracking and panning in pop music videos which is out chosen genre.
*shot of close up of both male and female artist*
Another convention we have used in this music video is, another one of Goodwins points, the demand of the record label will include a need for lots of close ups of the artist. This is because they want the audience to get to know the artist and be able to see their emotions. We included this in out music video because our song is very emotional and if we didnt have close ups showing his expresseion then the audience might not understand how he is feeling. also without having a range of shots like mid shots, close ups and side angles, it will make the video not interesting for the viewer and we wouldnt be able to show the artist as much.
*shot where girl is singing and it cuts on the beat*
Cutting on the beat is a big convention of pop music videos. in our music video we conformed to this by cutting on the beat where appropriate and where we thought made a impact on telling the story. Cutting on the beat makes the music video seem more neat and organised and easier to understand, it also matched the music type making the video more appropriate with the song it is accompanying.
*panning shot of the two singing face to face*
Using a panning shot in our music video is again using the conventions of a music video, using movement in a music video makes one shot more interesting by having movement inovolved. This panning shot works well where we have placed it because it is the start of them singing together and flows well from the shot before.
*shot of them sat down at dinner*
Telling a story through a music video, helping to tell the story of the lyrics is another use of a convention in a music video, throughout our music video we have only used short slips to help tell the story, this works well with the lyrics as it illistrates them well and adds a bit more interest to the music video instead of just having lip syncing and plain shots of the artist.
*shot of female artist stood in dark ontop of car park*
We used voyerism in our music video, this is a convention of a music video. We used an attractive femlae artist to attract the male side of our target audience, as this is quite an emotional feminine song ang there is an attractive male main artist, there are many reasons for females to watch this music video. By using an attractive female artist also, this will give males a reason to watch the music video widening our audience wanting to watch it, and also enjoying it.
*male artist singing on his own with black background*
Another use of a convention, is again one of Goodwins points, there is a relationship between music and visuals. In the music video, as the music goes pretty much silent and all you can really hear is the male artist singing with quite a raw tone to his voice, the visuals is a close up of him, to show his emotion, and a plain black background, showing his isolation to match the sound of the song at this point.
*shot of male artist sways and doesnt cut on the beat*
This is an example of where we challenged the conventions of a music video, as previously mentions we have used cutting on the beat throughout the music video apart form at one point. the music clearly cuts and we leave the male artist up and let him slowly fade away, this looks effective as it makes the music video less predictabe and and more interesting for the viewer. In my opinion this works really well and flows well with the next clip leading in the the female.
Task 2
Task 4
Photoshop
In creating the acillary products we used Photoshop quite a lot, it helped us create a certain look that we wanted for our artist to be portrayed as, it helped us to create a certain style to our images and give them an urban feel, one way we did this was by using the burning tool on the background to make the background clearer that the image was taken on the streets. We experimented with photoshop to create our desired look and in my opinion, i think we created it well as it also made an impact on creating our star persona. It also helped us create our star as the 'ideal' by getting rid of any blemishes and making him look the best he can. We saturated the images we used on the inside of our digipak the make our product in the style of rihannas which is what we were aiming for.
Blogger
This was a good technology to use as it helped us as a group and as individulas to track the progress of our work, and any ideas and videos we found we could post and always refere back to without having to take ages searching for them. It also helped us to brainstorm ideas for our music video and ancillary task with things such as different editing types. s it was a new technology and something we hadnt used before it also made it more interesting. It helped us us a group to help us remember the things we have spoke about and helped us as individuals because the ideas we could come up with at home we could then post and talk about as a group without forgetting.
Youtube
This technology was a great help in both the music video and the ancillary tasks. It helped us in the music video as it told us different lighting techniques which we needed help on because we wanted our music video to be in the dark and lighting in the dark is something we hadnt done before. Watching videos on youtube helped us to create the desicred effect we wanted our lighting to create. Aswell as lighting in the dark it also helped us with lighting inside and how to make it look more preffesional. Another way Youtube helped us with our music video is that we could watch different videos in the same genre to find out the conventions that we needed to put in our video, it also gave us ideas on what we could but in our video and different scenes. Youtube helped us with our ancillary tasks because it showed us how to create different effects using photoshop, this helped us a lot with creating different looks on our images.
